If numerous treatments have failed such as weight loss, electrical stimulation or sling procedures then stress incontinence surgery is highly recommended because of the success rate.

The key factors that contribute to stress incontinence include menopause, childbirth, and pregnancy. Leakage can occur prior to the week of menstruation and can worsen due to these factors. Low estrogen levels also can trigger stress incontinence which explains the reason for it occurring during menopause. There are two different methods for performing stress incontinence surgery which are through the vagina or abdominal wall. Women seem to find the surgery through the vagina less invasive and more effective. There are risks with any type of surgery and these risks include bladder injury, bleeding, urinary retention, infection or overactive bladder.
